Ham Radio and My Career

I feel very, very lucky. I am enjoying my career now at age 59 more than I ever have. Today I had a nice breakthrough building a Google BigQuery REST API.

But that’s not the story.

The real story is that every day that I go to work I feel energized and excited. It’s exactly the same way I have felt about working DX ATNO’s. Or building an antenna that really works well. There is a total convergence here. In 1976 my father’s good friend Joe Secundo convinced me to get into software instead of hardware. I had just passed my General class license and went from WN2QHN to WA2QHN.

And he plopped that IMSAI 8080 down on the kitchen table. I’ve mentioned this before several times, but it really was a big turning point in my life.

I feel lucky that I can get on my bike every day and roll down Moraga Way to BART and love my career and job.
