West Coast Fog

What looks like clouds is really fog. There is an expression that its called “June Gloom”, but in reality, this pattern starts in May and can last until part of August or September. September and October are usually our hottest months – when this fog pattern subsides, but even that is variable – August is a toss up.

In Orinda, the fog comes right up to a ridge nearby – which are the Oakland and Berkeley Hills – Skyline Boulevard being a demarcation line for the fog bank. We will have nice sunny days – but with a natural air condition that sometimes just hangs in the hills – and sometimes comes over to my QTH.

Its my favorite weather (besides a nice crisp sunny Fall day when the trees turn color). It also heralds Summer – and coincides with Dayton and Field Day. I work in San Francisco, and the temperature can be 30 degree difference between me getting on BART in Orinda and off at my work stop at Powell.
