I am not a contester, but it sure is fun seeing how well your QRP signal gets out on a Sunday morning during SS and trying new keys.

I am using a pair of phased verticals – and besides just having fun with my favorite ham radio mode (CW of course), I get to really see how well the antenna works. Its easy to get complacent when you are running with an amplifier, but at 2 watts – that’s when you are really testing your antenna system. Of course, being a contest – the heavy lifting is being done at the contesters station. I easily worked MT, CO, WA and NM states and just made a couple dozen QSO’s just for fun. I heard many other states.
Its a great way to get your QRP on, that’s for sure.
