Shure 51 Sonodyne Microphone

I was able to find a Shure 51 Microphone for only $80. I did some research and found that its easy to restore these – take it apart and replace the cartridge, replace the colored silk inside, and give it a good polishing. Its from the 50’s and is adjustable as far as impedance goes – which means it will work great with the KWS-1. In fact, I might just replace the mic cartridge with a fixed Hi Z – since that’s what the KWS-1 wants.

The design is really nice – the way the mic and wire go through the base. The condition is quite good – no serious scratches or dings – just a little pitting, but that actually adds character.
