February 1955 QST Article – “A Steerable Array for 7 and 14 Mc.” – highly recommended
I’m very excited about this article, because the width of the array and having two of the most productive bands – DX and Domestic – is very appealing. It is short enough that it could easily be “hidden” on just about any lot, and it offers good “band for the buck”.
Array Solutions sells something like this – the W9AD multiband phasing solution – https://www.arraysolutions.com/antennas-phasing/vertical-antennas-arrays/w9ad-sys
In any case, its a really interesting idea. OK – speaking of antenna phasing and matching circuits, here is the Collins 180S-1 antenna tuner schematic:
The Collins 180S-1 is usually used as an L tuner, using the 500pf vacuum variable capacitor plus the 15uH roller inductor. Its interesting to see the two sets of five 100uf doorknob capacitors on the input – the other unit that I have doesn’t have these. When the two jumpers marked “Spare” are not in line, the doorknobs are bypassed.
