The Free Range QRP DX Challenge

One of several things that move into 2020 as “status quo” is chasing QRP DX and just playing with signal to noise ratio with antennas and receiving. Over the last two days I’ve especially enjoyed 20M, which sounds like a dead band, but where I have answered several CQ’s and was answered immediately.

The best thing is there is zero stress involved. My expectations are perfect for where Ham Radio fits in my life, which is pretty much my replacement for watching TV. I haven’t watched TV in more than 15 years.

I watch the radio!

  1. Receive signal to noise improvements strike me as the next frontier for those of us living in populated areas. The QRM sources are not going away anytime soon.

Just going to a simple preamplifed loop here was enough to give me 80M and 40M back after sunset. But, I know there is much more to be had.

I can’t wait to read more about your war on noise on 40M.
