Emulating the Hi-Z Receive Solution with an NCC-1

The Hi-Z “Emulation System at KY6R

I have never owned a Hi-Z receive antenna system but have heard nothing but great things about them. I do have two Hi-Z 75 to 50 ohm transformer boxes, so I guess I have at least thrown them a few bucks.

I will be testing the NCC-1 before I test the K9AY Loops that I wrote about in my last post. These two tests are to validate my KY6R Big Mag Loops – and have some A-B tests – and I also have a friend who wants me to build a receive antenna for his very small lot – smaller than mine. I am already sure the K9AY Loops are way too big for his 35 x 100′ lot – where his house and granny outbuilding take up almost the entire area – so phased verticals will have to be the answer.

I’m pretty excited that the NCC-1 will no double offer what (I think) the Hi-Z solution does. I will not have pre-amps at each vertical, nor will I have preamps at the NCC-1. So it is an apples to oranges comparison, but still, it should at least be interesting.
